Relative to multi-storey civil building, the workshop of multi-storey steel construction has a relatively big floor height, which is usually 4~8m. For example, the height of a 4-storey workshop is equivalent to 8-storey civil building. Multi-storey workshop of steel construction has big internal space, and the column spacing is mostly 6~12m, and sometimes reaches 18m.
3. Big live load
Due to the requirements of raw material stacking and production process, the live load of multi-storey workshop of steel construction is mostly 2.5~20 kN/m2, which is far larger than that of multi-storey civil building.

The suspended loads of multi-story workshop with more suspended and concentrated loads mainly include installing load, loads of process streamline, hoisting crane and ceiling, etc., whereas the concentrated load mainly includes equipment dead weight, and sometimes the vibrating load of equipment.
5. Staggered layer arrangement of structure
The structures of multi-storey general building are mostly of symmetric arrangement, whereas for the multi-storey light steel workshop, there often appears the phenomenon of structural staggered layers in order to satisfy process requirements, this makes the floor slab is no longer complete, makes the uniformity of the mass distribution along the height destroyed and may cause twist under the action of earthquake. And due to “short-column effect”, this makes the horizontal shear become the control factor of some column segments.
6. Short construction period
Compared to the conventional reinforced concrete workshop, the design, production and construction of multi-storey workshop of steel construction tend to be integrated, plus there is no welding on site and no wet operation, all these are helpful to shortening the construction period and speeding up fund circulation.
